S. Cole Staats

S. Cole Staats of Ravenswood, WV left this Earthly place on Thursday, April 7, 2022 at UPMC Shadyside in Pittsburgh, PA.

He was born on October 20, 1945, son of the late Veldra and Ethel (Casto) Staats.

Cole grew up in Wilding, WV and graduated from Ravenswood High School. He attended Marshall University where he joined the Kappa Alpha fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Constellium of Ravenswood after 43 years as a Mechanical Engineer.

He was a smart, strong, loving, successful, courageous father, husband, and grandfather. He and his wife Diana loved to travel and watch old western TV shows. Cole was known for his love for their children and grandchildren. He would play outside in the snow with their grandchildren, play many sports with them in the backyard of his house, push them on the rope swing that he built for them, and loved to watch them play in their sporting events and concerts. He was an avid Ravenswood Red Devils fan and even more so when his grandchildren were playing.

Along with his parents, he is proceeded in death by his siblings Bob Staats, Roland Staats (Grace), Eleanor Staats Vankirk (Gene), Bernard Staats, Paul Staats, John Staats, and late wife Carolyn Staats.

He is survived in death by his beloved wife of 35 years, Diana Moore Staats, his children Angela Graham (Mike), Shannon Perdue (Dwayne), Tina Akers (Steve), Bryan Staats (Linda), Lita Simms (Lee), and Shelly Dale (Brian), and his 14 grandchildren Patrick, Raegan, Clarissa, Isaac, Bryce, Chloe, Payton, Jacob, Zack, Marcy, Max, Taye, Alli, and Cara and two great-grandchildren Jackson and Aurora; siblings Carroll Staats (Jenny), Larry Staats (Laura), Jim Staats (Rhonda), and Linda Staats Mollohan (Aaron), and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday , April 13, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood with Pastor Toby Wagoner officiating. Burial will follow at Ravenswood Cemetery in Ravenswood, WV.

Friends and family may visit at the funeral home on Tuesday , April 12, 2022 from 6:00-8:00 PM.

Special thanks to UPMC Doctors and Nurses, specifically Dr. Woytawitz, Nurse Darren, Nurse Taylor, Nurse Patrick, and Nurse Bailey for the care they provided him in his last few weeks.
