Lawrence David Whitman of Ravenswood passed away surrounded by his family on December 17th, 2021, at the age of 83.

Dave was born in Richwood, West Virginia to parents Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence C. Whitman. Dave grew up in Boomer, West Virginia, alongside his brother and his three sisters.

Dave was beloved and revered by all who knew him. Dave is described by his family as their Rock. Friends say Dave was generous, judicious, and insightful. His Christian upbringing taught Dave to always lend a helping hand and to advocate for others where needed. Dave was known for his incredible compassion and philanthropy.

Dave joined Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporations in 1959, wherein he managed several locations, including Belpre, OH, Newark, OH, Toledo, OH, Mexico, MO, Spokane, WA, and Ravenswood, WV. Dave managed mergers and acquisitions for Kaiser's corporate office in Oakland, California. Dave is described by coworkers and employees as a diligent hardworker who would work from daylight to dark to accomplish the objective and who always wanted the best for his employees. Dave met Dorothy McCoy at Kaiser in 1959, and they were married in 1960. Dave later told all his kids and grandkids that "the person you spend your life with is the most important decision you'll ever make". Dave and Dot's sons, Scott and Mark, describe their father as their best man.

Dave was a wise, resolute man upon whom so many people depended. He will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.

Dave is survived by his wife Dottie, his brother Dale, his sisters Marlene and Sharon, his sons Scott and Mark, his seven grandchildren, and his ten great-grandchildren. Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Phyllis.

Friends will be received at First United Methodist Church, 719 Flinn Ave in Ravenswood, West Virginia, December 22, 2021 from 11am to 1pm, followed by a service officiated by Pastor Michael Ludle. Burial will follow at Jackson County Memory Gardens near Ravenswood, West Virginia.
