Dorothy “Dottie” June Cox of Ravenswood, went to be with her Lord on July 25, 2018, at the age of 84.

She was born in Midland, WV, Randolph County, on September 12, 1933, to the late David Bernard and Julia Iski Newcomer. Dottie married Charles Cox on December 27, 1951, and together they raised three sons and two daughters.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cox in 1982, and grandchildren, Amber Cox, Elaine Cox, Bryan Cox, and Keith Cox.

Dottie started college when her youngest child was a junior in high school. She went on to complete her studies in sociology earning a bachelor’s degree from WV State and a master’s degree from Marshall University. The completion of her doctoral studies at Ohio State University were not realized due to family illness. She was a professor of sociology and psychology, teaching classes at WV State and WVU-P. In her lifetime, Dottie was a member of First Baptist Church of Ravenswood. She was active in many organizations including American Baptist Women’s Ministries, Garden Club, Women’s Club, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, to name just a few.

She is survived by her children, David Cox (Candy), Vienna, WV; Christa Cox-Watanabe (Noriyasu), Tokyo, Japan; Laura Cox (Joe Blizzard), Winfield, WV; Mark Cox (Tonya), Montana; and Tim Cox (Denise), Ravenswood, WV. Also surviving are grandchildren, Yasuyo Watanabe, Charles Blizzard, Gordon Blizzard, Tracy Cox Currey (Jacob), Jesse Cox; and step-grandchildren, Heather, Willie, Crystal and Steven.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, July 30, 2018, at 7:00 pm at First Baptist Church in Ravenswood, WV, with Pastor Abraham Williams officiating. Friends may visit the family at the church on Monday, July 30, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Immediately following the Celebration of Life for Dottie, the family invites everyone to join them for fellowship in the Fellowship Hall at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the No Hunger Food Pantry, 231 Walnut Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164.
