Gary “Pat” Patterson

Gary “Pat” Patterson, 75, of Harpers Ferry, WV, passed away May 19th, 2020, at Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, WV, after a short illness. He was born Oct. 23rd, 1944 in Parkersburg, WV.

Gary grew up in the Bartlett/Fleming, OH and Vienna, WV areas. He was an active member of the church of Christ and had led singing since the age of 16. Gary attended the 34th/36th Street Church of Christ in Vienna, WV as a young man and had been a member of the Church of Christ in Charles Town, WV for the past 27 years. Gary loved the Marshall Thundering Herd and dearly loved his cats Colby, Bailey, and Chloe.

Gary was a 1962 graduate of Parkersburg High School. He completed a BBA in accounting at Marshall University as well as an MBA in finance from Ohio University. He was a certified public accountant and certified fraud examiner. Gary also served as a government consultant in the Washington D.C. area for many years. In the course of his work, he consulted for the U.S. Dept. of Justice, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Bureau of Indian Affairs, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Dept. of Homeland Security, FEMA, U.S. Dept. of Treasury, U.S. Mint, Nuclear Regulatory Commission and NASA. He also traveled to Japan, Indonesia, Singapore, and various areas in the United States.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy Douglas and Freeda Clare Patterson and his sister Glenna Patterson Lemley.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years Pamela Shockey Deem Patterson; son Jason Patterson (Tegan) of Broadlands, VA; step-son Deron Deem (Melissa) of Point Pleasant, WV; grandchildren Jude and Eden Patterson and Katherine and Sarah Deem; brothers-in-law Greg Shockey (Carla) of Washington, WV and Ed Lemley (Ileene) of Vienna, WV; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at Ravenswood Cemetery, Ravenswood, WV on Saturday, May 23rd at 2:30pm with Pete Allinder, Sand Hill Road church of Christ, officiating. The service will be live on Arrangements are being handled by Roush Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed to the family at or on Facebook.
