Jerry Robert “Big Mack” McCommack, Sr., saved by the grace of God through the blood of his son Jesus Christ, left this earth on January 21, 2020, to be with our Heavenly Father.

Jerry was born in Cannelton, WV, on April 16, 1943, to Dollie Mae “Dot” and Robert Earl McCommack.

He graduated from Montgomery High School in 1961. He lived in Cannelton Hollow with his family, sister, Sharon Sue, Sandra Jean, and brother, Larry (Makie) McCommack, until he left for Chicago in 1962. In 1963, he met his beautiful bride, Phyllis Marie “Corky”. They wed on October 24, 1964. He loved naps, and classic cars. He also loved to remodel and do construction, and always wear the white hat, he especially loved his church and family. Jerry raised his family in Burnham, ILL. He worked for Republic Steel, Sears and Roebuck, and The Carpenters Union.

He moved back home to Ravenswood in 1994, where he remodeled and built his home which is now called “Red Row”.

Jerry never met a stranger and had a heart of solid gold! Jerry had a roar like a lion but was gentle like a lamb. He had many cherished friends that he loved dearly.

He is survived by 2 children, Jerry Robert (Josie) McCommack, and Christy Lynn (Mark) Bievenour; 8 grandchildren, Jerry III, Chelsea, Ana, Emily, Krystal, Nathan, Sarah and Renee. They all cherished their Pop-Pop. Also survived by 7 great grandchildren, Lincoln, Kaleb, Gaven and Lydia, Frankie, Wyatt and Dax; and numerous nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Jean Coiner, and brother, Larry Macon McCommack.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 24, 2020, at 3:00 pm at Second Baptist Church in Ravenswood with Dr. S. R. Parsons, Jr. officiating.

Jerry donated his body to WV University for medical education and research.

Corky, Mack (Jerry) and Christy would like to thank everyone for touching our lives and loving “Jerry”.

He enjoyed his life and loved his family.
