John Martin Staats, of Ravenswood, WV, passed away at the age of 82 on Sunday, March 20, 2022, at Hubbard Hospice House in Charleston, WV.

He was born on September 24, 1939, son of the late Veldra and Ethel Casto Staats.

John grew up in Wilding, WV, and graduated from Ravenswood High School. He served his country as a member of the US Army, 812 Ordinance Company in Ripley, WV, and Fort Pickett, VA. He had a reputation of being a good mechanic and spent many years supervising the mobile equipment shop for Kaiser Aluminum Corporation and Pechiney Rolled Products. He enjoyed his retirement years playing golf and taking care of his home in Ravenswood.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Carolyn Starcher Staats; siblings, Carroll Staats (Jenny), Larry Staats (Laura), Cole Staats (Diana), Jim Staats (Rhonda), and Linda Staats Mollohan (Aaron); sisters-in-law, Carol Ann Franklin Staats, Helen Bailes Staats, Rose Spears Staats; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Bob Staats, Roland Staats (Grace), Eleanor Staats Vankirk



(Gene), Bernard Staats, and Paul Staats. The funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 12:00 pm at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood with Reverend Donald Balis officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson County Memory Gardens in Cottageville, WV.

Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Thursday, March 24, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm, time of service.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to Hospice Care, 1606 Kanawha Blvd West, Charleston, WV, or to a charitable organization of your choice.
