Quinter Clarence Vought

Quinter Clarence Vought, 93, of Ravenswood, WV, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 29, 2021 after a long illness. He was born on November 8, 1927, in Preston County, WV, son of the late Charles and Rosella Vought. He was the 4th of 5 children with 2 brothers and 2 sisters.

Quinter was a graduate of Terra Alta High School, class of 1948. In the spring of 1945, at 17 years old, Quinter answered the call to go on a mission trip to Poland to help transport cattle and horses for struggling communities. The trip lasted 4 weeks and they traveled by boat. Immediately after returning home to West Virginia, he signed up for the draft where he served for the United States Army until his honorable discharge on July 15, 1947.

Quinter married the love of his life, Dorothy (Dotty) Marie Nordeck on April 30, 1948. Quinter and Dotty moved their family to Ravenswood, WV in the late 1950’s where he worked for his brother Bob at his business, Home Service. He was employed by JCo. Lumber beginning in 1972 until his retirement in 1990. He was an avid, and very skilled wood worker who enjoyed creating things for others and his family. When he wasn’t working in his shop, he could usually be found at a Ravenswood sporting event supporting his grandchildren, or helping others with various projects. A member of Ravenswood First Baptist Church, Quinter played an integral part in building the new Fellowship Hall in 1998. He was a dedicated member of the congregation who was always willing to lend a hand in service for the Lord. Those who knew him had most certainly heard his stories of riding his motorcycle as a young man and how much he wanted to ride again. Although dementia eventually took most of those memories, he never lost his sense of humor and quick wit.

In addition to his parents, Quinter was preceded in death by his wife of almost 62 years, Dotty Vought; 5-year-old daughter, Donna Jean Vought; brothers, Bob Vought and Huck Vought; and sister, Blanche Vought Arnold.

He is survived by his son, David Vought (Kathy) of Sylacauga, AL, and daughter, Connie Staats (Tim) of Ravenswood, WV; grandchildren, Bob Vought (Jennifer) of Spanish Fort, AL, Matt Vought (Bethany) of Algood, Tennessee, Leigh Ann Kerns (Jason) of Ravenswood, WV, and David Staats (Lyndsey) of Vincent, OH; great-grandchildren, Robert, Reilly, Caroline, Mary Lacy, and David Burris Vought, Nate Cope, Mason and Logan Kerns, and Easton, Kennedy and Baylor Staats; sister, Ruth Vought Martin. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews and special friends.

The family would like to thank his special caregivers, Paula Walker, Nolana McClure and Brandi Ordonio for the excellent care and friendship they gave to our father and grandfather over the last 3 and 4 years. You were very special to him.

Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 5 at 1:00 pm at the Ravenswood Cemetery, with Pastor Toby Wagoner officiating. Friends and family may pay their respects from 12:30 pm to 1:00 pm at the cemetery.

The service may be viewed at 1:00 pm on Facebook Live on the Roush Funeral Home Facebook page.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Quinter’s name to the Ravenswood First Baptist Church Building Fund, 215 Ann Street, Ravenswood, WV 26164.
