Ray E. Shockey passed away on February 5, 2022, at Jackson General Hospital in Ripley, WV.
Sergeant First Class, Ray Shockey, US Army retired, was born on March 15, 1947 in Ravenswood, WV, a son of the late
Robert and Martha Shockey.
He is married to the former Terry Sue Jeffrey of Ravenswood, WV. He graduated from Ravenswood High School, class of 1965.
Upon graduation, he attended Dental Laboratory Technician School in Washington, DC, graduating in 1966. He then went on to
the University of Charleston in 1986 and graduated in 1988. He enlisted in the US Army in December of 1966 where he
reported for basic training at Fort Bragg, NC.
After completion of basic training, he reported to Fort Sam Houston, Texas, US Army Medical Field Services School. His
enlistment included Dewitt Army Hospital Dental Detachment, Fort Beloit, VA, and the 35th Medical Group YougSan, Army
Garrison, South Korea. He completed his three-year enlistment and was discharged in 1969. In 1979, he enlisted in the
United States Army Reserve (Active Duty).
His assignment included 812th Ord Co, Ripley, WV, Company Supply Sergeant, the 321st Ord Bn, Cross Lanes, WV, Battalion
Supply Sergeant, the 2nd Bn 319th Inf Regt 3rd Training Brigade, 80th Div., Bristol, VA, Battalion Supply Sergeant, 332nd
Ord Bn, Kenova, WV, Battalion Supply Sergeant. He retired from active service at Kenova, WV, in March of 1997.
His awards and decorations include the Army Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal with four oak leaf
clusters, the Army Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Army Good Conduct Medal, sixth award, the Army
Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Medal with star, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve
Medal, the Noncommissioned Officers Professional Development Ribbon with numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, and the Reserve
Components Overseas Training Ribbon.
Ray attended the Ripley Tabernacle in Ripley. He was a member of VFW Post 5501 in Ripley, WV; American Legion Post 107 in
Ripley, WV; and a member of Ripley Masonic Lodge No. 16 A.F. & A. M. in Ripley, WV. He was a loving father.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Terry; daughter, Amanda Casto (Adam); 3 grandsons, Jeremiah Casto, Mason Casto and
Elijah Casto; twin brother, Roy Shockey (Carol), brother, George Shockey; sisters, Roberta Sommerville (Jim), Ethel Shockey
Lemley, and Judith Shockey; many loved nieces and nephews; and many, many friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne; and nephews, David Shockey and Kenneth Parsons.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022, at 11:00 am at Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood with Pastor Jeff
Keffer officiating. Burial will follow in Ravenswood Cemetery with graveside rites provided by Ripley Masonic Lodge #16 of
Ripley, and American Legion post #107 of Ripley.
Friends may visit the family at the funeral home on Friday, February 11, from 5:00 to 8:00 pm.
