Samuel Lee Kinder

Samuel Lee Kinder of Rand, WV, died suddenly of a heart attack on April 9, 2019, at age 72. He was born on December 12, 1946, in Madison, WV, the son Samuel and Anna Huffman Kinder, and was adopted at age 4 by his grandparents, Raymond and Mabel Kinder of Whitesville, WV.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and siblings, Bobby Kinder and Jo Ella Thompson.

Sam is survived by his sister, Karen (Fred) Massey of Orgas, WV; friend/sister, Vida (Steve) Perrine of Ravenswood, WV; several nieces, nephews, cousins, longtime friend and roommate, Stephen Barksdale; and close friend and neighbor, Jean Barnett. His niece, Morgan Perrine and her son, Julian, held a special place in his heart. He also leaves behind his beloved cat, Raven.

Sam was a hairdresser for many years and worked in salons in Charleston, Huntington, Parkersburg, and Ravenswood. He made many friends and was well-known, talented and requested.

Sam was loved by many of us who delighted in his sense of humor, his energy, his kindness and big heart. He was generous and loving and has left a sadness that can only be mended by the precious memories we have.

Sam was a Christian and attended St. Matthew Catholic Church when he lived in Ravenswood. His final wishes were to be cremated. A memorial service is being planned.

Arrangements are being handled by Roush Funeral Home in Ravenswood.
